Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham has said he always dreamt of playing for England and not the Super Eagles of Nigeria. The 22 year-old striker was called up by the England Three Lions for the 2020 Euro qualifiers with the Czech Republic and Bulgaria taking place this month.
The Blues’ star whose parents are from Nigeria was courted by the West African nation but the former England youth international said he never thought of playing for the three-time African champions. If he plays for the England team during the qualifiers, he would not be able to feature for the Super Eagles at the international level again.
According to him, having two nations interested in him is a pointer that he is doing well in his career.
“For me, it’s always nice to be wanted by two nations. Clearly, it means you’re doing something well,” he told Daily Mail.
“At the back of my head, I’ve always wanted to play for England. I was born and grown in England. My dream was always to play for England. It doesn’t affect the fact Nigeria still wanted me, and it’s a big nation. I love both nations.
“My head was just screwed on with England. I’m here and I’m ready to stay. I want to do the best I can. That means playing well, for club and country. Just hopefully I can get many years experience under my belt for England.”
