Penalties were required to separate AC Milan and Lazio in their Coppa Italia semi-final and it was Aquile fan Alessio Romagnoli who delivered the decisive blow to dump his boyhood team out the competition.

The first leg had ended 0-0 in Milan and was destined to finish the same way on Wednesday night as Lazio pressed but ultimately survived the best opportunity falling to Milan's Ivan Kalinic, who blazed over from close range just moments before the final whistle.

First it seemed as if one of Gianluigi Donnarumma or Thomas Strakosha was destined to be the hero at the Stadio Olimpico as both saved three of the initial four spot-kicks for each side.

As the shootout reached sudden death, Luiz Felipe smashed Lazio's seventh kick high over the bar, allowing centre-back Romagnoli the chance to book Milan's place in the final against Juventus, and it was one which he duly took as Strakosha dived the wrong way.
