At the same time as Mauricio Pochettino's chances of becoming the next Real Madrid coach have diminished, Massimiliano Allegri's stock has been rising. He has become a luxury Plan B for Los Blancos.
Reports in Italy claim that contact with the coach was made last Friday, June 1, with Real Madrid seemingly working on a backup option in case Pochettino cannot be hired.
While the Italian does have a contract in Turin until 2020, there is a sense that negotiations with the club would be far less difficult than they would be with Tottenham for Pochettino.
Furthermore, Allegri understands that his time at the club is coming to an end and he was even in negotiations with Arsenal when they were looking to replace Arsene Wenger.
For the Real Madrid directors, they especially like that Allegri has enjoyed success in league competition, winning four Scudettos with Juventus and one with AC Milan.
Over the past eight years, only Pep Guardiola's record in top European league title races can compare with Allegri.
The 50-year-old has previously compared the league to a marathon, stating that it is not a 100m sprint, and he knows how to manage his squads well and how to get the most out of his players.
He is also known to be an authoritative figure, one who isn't afraid to take tough decisions.  For Real Madrid, he would surely represent a safe bet.
