Football World governing body FIFA recently released the three-man nominees for ‘The Best’ award for the 2017/18 season and many were surprised to see that not one member of France's World Cup-winning squad in Russia made the list.
Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has expressed his surprise too at the list which featured Luka Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah.
"As I've said in a previous interview, it's a shame that there is no world champion up for The Best given that it is an award given out by FIFA," he said while on France duty.
"I don't know what their criteria are. "It's a shame, but we can't do anything more. "We have won the most important thing already, which is the World Cup.
"That's the best prize you can win. "So we'll be happy even though none of us are up for The Best."
The winner of FIFA The Best will be announced at a ceremony on September 24, 2018.
