Arsenal boss insists he won’t step down this summer

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists he won’t step down this summer despite increasing pressure on the Frenchman to call time on his career at the Emirates Stadium, reports the Times.

The Gunners fell to a 2-1 loss to Brighton on Sunday to leave them 33 points behind league leaders Manchester City and mathematically out of the title race.

Now 13 points behind Tottenham in the race for a top-4 finish, Arsenal’s best chance of a Champions League place next season is to secure Europa League glory.

However, the Gunners still have to navigate a resurgent AC Milan in the last-16 and after four successive defeats for the first time since October 2002, the calls for Wenger to stand down are deafening.

Wenger, though, is remaining defiant in his quest to continue as Arsenal manager, with the 68-year-old reportedly telling his coaching staff that the club will need to sack him for his time at the Emirates to end.

The Frenchman will hope to end Arsenal’s dismal run of form in Milan on Thursday night, yet will likely struggle against an AC Milan side that is unbeaten in their last 13, winning 10.
