Arsenal are considering a summer move for Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno following Petr Cech’s startling decline, claims The Daily Mirror.
Cech has been a huge disappointment since swapping Chelsea for Arsenal in a £10m deal in 2015 and his performances have only got worse this season.
The 35-year-old was at fault for both of Brighton’s goals at the weekend as Arsenal slipped to their eighth defeat in 2018 and now the Gunners are looking for his successor.
Arsene Wenger has earmarked Leno as a potential summer transfer target and the 26-year-old only has a £22m buy-out clause in his current Leverkusen contract.
Leno was briefly linked with a move to Bayern Munich in January as the Bundesliga giants pondered whether or not they needed another goalkeeper to cover for the injured Manuel Neuer.
Cech has failed to keep a clean sheet in his last 11 appearances in the Premier League and has also committed the most errors that have directly led to an opposition goal this season (6).
However, it’s worth nothing that since August 2015, only Oliver Baumann (9) has committed more errors that have directly led to an opposition goal than Leno (8) in the Bundesliga.
