Domestic fixtures have come to an end and Athletic Club have already formulated their summer pre-season plans, with Liverpool announcing on Tuesday a friendly match against Los Leones.
It will be the first match between the two clubs since the 1983/84 season, when they faced each other in the European Cup with the English club managing to overcome their Spanish counterparts 1-0 on aggregate.
Ian Rush, the scorer of the Reds' away goal and currently a Liverpool ambassador, commented on the upcoming encounter to urge local fans to show their support when the clubs come to Dublin.
"Whenever we go to Dublin, fans welcome us with open arms," he said.
"Even if it's a friendly match, I'm sure our Irish fans will create a spectacular atmosphere for the duel against Athletic."
The match will be played at Aviva Stadium in the Irish capital on Saturday August 5 at 18:15 CET.
