Atleti quintet won't rest

2 weeks ago  Raphael   Sport News

The month of April has been, and will continue to be, one of the busiest of the season for certain LaLiga clubs, but there are five Atletico Madrid players who won't be taking a break at all during this period.
Jan Oblak, Juanfran, Stefan Savic, Gabi and Koke have become fixtures for Diego Simeone, and since the last international break in March they've not had one minute of respite, having played every match, from start to finish: three league games and the Champions League matchup against Leicester.
Since returning to play against Malaga on April 1, Cholo's quintet have accumulated 360 minutes of play in twelve days. They are the only ones who have done so, because the rest of the squad have managed to have some rest.
The carousel doesn't stop because Atletico have another two more clashes in just four days; against Osasuna and then the quarter-final against Leicester in England, next Tuesday.
Numerous injuries are what's causing the rojiblancos to have to keep playing, although Koke will surely miss the Osasuna game because he was booked for the fifth time in the derby against Real Madrid.
He has played the most this season with 3,895 minutes in his legs, and with training still ahead El Cholo will have to decide the starting team for the game at the Estadio Vicente Calderon.
Oblak's presence in between the sticks is a given because Moya is injured and Moreira still does not know what it is to wear Atletico's shirt - except on the day of his presentation.
Juanfran continues on the right as Vrsaljko is out and the presence of Savic and Gabi will depend on which XI Simeone wants.
A more defensive line up will see him turn to Gimenez or Lucas, alternatively Thomas Partey or Nico Gaitan could get a look in.
All in the top 10Gabi is the sixth in the list, with 3,397 minutes in the 41 matches he has taken part in. Juanfran is in eighth thanks to the 2,865 minutes that he has played in 34 games.
Finally, Oblak closes this top 10 after having played 31 times and for a total of 2,740 minutes.
