Aubameyang's Gabon drop two points against Guinea Bisau

3 months ago  Raphael   Sport News

In what was a shock result to kick-start the competition, Gabon have drawn 1-1 with Guinea Bisau, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's side dropping two valuable points.
Jose Antonio Camacho's team were expected to dominate comfortably, and for long periods of the match were in such a position.
Guinea Bisau were barely in the first-half as Gabon controlled proceedings yet the favourites missed chance after chance which would prove costly in the end.
Zezinho took the only shot for the minnows in the first-half yet it flew high over the bar.
The second period began in much the same manner and Aubameyang was a threat all afternoon, finally making the breakthrough just 10 minutes after half-time, taking advantage of a defensive slip.
Rather than freeing up Gabon, Camacho's side retreated into their shell much to the chagrin of the Spaniard.
Their opponents grew in confidence as a result and started to venture forward with absolutely nothing to lose.
Aubameyang did spurn an opportunity to kill the game when he sent a volley over the bar and this profligacy would bite Gabon in the 91st-minute when a Zezinho cross found Juary Soares in the penalty area and he equalised with a diving header.
Guinea Bisau were overjoyed in the moment and celebrated wildly yet in the aftermath it is clear Gabon can only look back on the match as a missed opportunity.
