Despite his player being one of the most controversial figures in the world of football, Nice president, Jean-Pierre Rivere, stated that he remains confident that a renewal could be reached between the club and Mario Balotelli for an extra 450,000 euros per month.
'Super Mario' assisted his team's efforts to seal a top-three finish which gave the French club Champions League qualification for the upcoming season, and Rivere claimed that the two parties are currently negotiating a new deal.
"I can tell you three things: he is a player who wants to stay with us, is willing to make financial adjustments and we will continue the negotiations [with him]," he said.
Sources close to the two parties confirmed that the issue remains complicated but they are hopeful an agreement for a two-year contract could be reached.
In an attempt to see his name among the call-ups for the 2018 World Cup, the Italy international arrived in France on deadline day last summer and scored 15 goals in 2016/17.
