Barcelona new signing Antoine Griezmann revealed what Lionel Messi failed to do as a captain since he arrived in press conference ahead of their game against English Premier League side Chelsea in Japan.
The Blaugrana's pre-season will get going when they take on Chelsea in Japan on Tuesday and Antoine Griezmann is excited to play for his new club. The Frenchman also spoke of his desire to get on the pitch on Monday.
"These will be my first minutes with this shirt and I am very keen to play with my new teammates," he said at a press conference. "I want to enjoy myself with this dressing room, both on and off the pitch."
The World Cup winner spoke about his first day at the club claiming all the players have welcomed him to the club including Luis Suarez who is still on holiday but it was surprising that the captain of the club Messi has failed to perform one of his leadership duties by welcoming the new signing to the club.
"The first day was a little difficult because I was nutmegged twice in the rondos," he said. "I haven't received a message yet from Lionel Messi, but yes, Luis Suarez did welcome me. "I have been welcomed in well by the group and I'm happy to share a dressing room with these guys. "I hope I can help as much as possible."
The player was also asked about his exit from Atletico Madrid and he reflected on his departure:  "That's a club where I gave my all and I am calm about it," he said of the tension and legal sniping. "All I'm worried about now is training well to learn the coach's tactics.
"I did everything as well as possible with respect to Diego Simeone, my former teammates and Atletico Madrid to leave on good terms. It's an issue for them. "I am calm and all that matters is starting well with Barcelona."
Griezmann was also asked about his relationship with Diego Simeone, who recently said that he still loves the Frenchman:  "Our relationship was more than a coach and a player, we're like family," he said. "I got on very well with him. "He was important for what I did on the pitch and for my private life.
"I owe him a lot and I love him a lot. "Our relationship will carry on, even after retirement."
