Barcelona star on loan at Turkish Super Ligue side Istanbul Basaksehir, Arda Turan has been rumoured to have been indicted by the Turkish Prosecutor's Office over assault and illegal possession of weapons which have been accepted by an Istanbul court.
Turan has been accused of a number of crimes, and the Prosecutor's Office have asked for a jail term to be imposed on the Barcelona loanee of between three and twelve years.
Turkish newspaper, Hurriyet, reported that the prosecution's solicitor considers that the footballer engaged in behaviour that amounted to "sexual harassment," "intentional injuries," "shooting with a firearm in a way that may induce fear or panic" and "carrying unlicensed weapons."
The first review of the case has been set for next January 30, the newspaper added. Berkay Sahin, who had an altercation with Turan in a popular nightclub in Istanbul in the early morning of last Wednesday, made the complaint, and he has also been accused of "insults."
According to the Turkish press, Turan harassed the singer's wife, Ozlem Ada, at the bar, prompting a confrontation in which the footballer broke Berkay's nose with a headbutt.
The couple went to a nearby hospital, but Turan followed soon after and when he entered the hospital he fired a shot with his pistol, without causing injuries.
Bizarrely, the player told the press that he followed the singer to apologise for his actions and that the shot occurred by chance.
On Tuesday, Istanbul Basaksehir, whom Turan has played for since last January, announced that they will fine the player 2.5 million Turkish lire (about 370,000 euros) for "attitudes incompatible with the club's values," though they will keep him as an active player until the sentence.
