Barcelona star, Gerard Pique has become the latest footballer to lose a case before the Treasury in relation to his image rights and has been asked to pay fine. The former Manchester United defender was present in the National Court due to an accusation on behalf of the Tax Agency.
According to reports in El Confidencial, Pique now must pay 1.5 million euros which is equivalent to ₦606 million. The story dates back to June 2013, when he was sanctioned for taxes from 2008, 2009 and 2010. It was thought that Pique had evaded the payment of almost 1.5 million euros and was told to pay 678,012 euros. But the Catalan wasn't alone.
Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Radamel Falcao, Angel Di Maria, Marcelo, and Luka Modric were also denounced in criminal proceedings, with Xabi Alonso being the only one to go to trial.
In December 2016 it was confirmed that Pique has 1.5 million euros to pay, though with the 678,012 euros subtracted.
