Borussia Dortmund want to prolong Michy Batshuayi’s stay at the club by signing him on a permanent deal in the summer, claims the London Evening Standard.
Batshuayi left Chelsea to join Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the season during the January transfer window and has been an instant hit for the Bundesliga side, scoring in both of his opening two appearances.
The Belgium international failed to make any impression on Chelsea boss Antonio Conte during his 18-month spell at Stamford Bridge and was allowed to find regular playing time elsewhere after Olivier Giroud’s arrival.
It remains to be seen whether Batshuayi has a future at Chelsea, particularly as it seems Conte will leave at the end of the season, but Dortmund will push to make his switch permanent regardless.
Dortmund will need to sign a long-term replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer after the Gabon international joined Arsenal last month but they failed to include an option to buy in their loan agreement with Chelsea.
The defending Premier League champions paid more than £30m to sign Batshuayi from Marseille in 2016 and would want to at least recoup all of their original investment if they were to sell.
Batshuayi, 24, has scored as many goals for Dortmund in his first two appearances for the club (3) as he managed in his last 11 for Chelsea combined.
