Borussia Dortmund's Zorc continues to sign the stars of the future

With the signing of 17-year-old starlet Alexander Isak, Borussia Dortmund have added yet another projected world beater to their squad as the Bundesliga team becomes even more renowned for signing and developing young talent under the watchful eye of sporting director Michael Zorc.
With a record 463 appearances for Dortmund, Zorc was already a legend in western Germany, but he has cemented that status by finding and acquiring the best up-and-comers along with general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke.
Despite fierce competition with Real Madrid, Zorc and his team were able to convince Isak that the Westfalenstadion was the best place for him to develop his talents.
"Many of Europe's big clubs wanted to sign him and we're glad that he has chosen us," the director said of the acquisition.
"He is a talented and evolving forward who we think has great potential."
Yet Isak is not alone if choosing Dortmund as the best place to refine his talents, as 19-year-old Ousmane Dembele was also convinced to join last summer, as were 19-year-old Emre Mor, 20-year-old Mikel Merino and 23-year-old Raphael Guerreiro.
They follow in the footsteps of a number of other aces to have been signed during the Zorc era, with the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Mats Hummels becoming superstars in yellow, before moving on.
Although the Polish striker left for free, most of the players to have moved on have done so with a considerable mark-up, which has allowed the director to bring in nearly 240 million euros in transfer fees in just the past five years.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang may have been brought in at the slightly older age of 24, but he too is set to command a momentous fee if he leaves this summer, which would give Zorc even more funds with which to find the next crop of young superstars.
