FIFA have announced a selection of finalists as part of their 'The Best' award group, and Gianluigi Buffon, Keylor Navas and Manuel Neuer have been named as the three for the best goalkeeper.
Navas goes against two opposing goalkeepers who he has already defeated this calendar year with Real Madrid overcoming both Bayern Munich and Juventus en route to European glory.
Buffon rolled back the years with a string of quite wonderful performances in 2017, unfortunately for the Italian he fell agonizingly short of securing the Champions League trophy, the one title that eludes him.
Neuer, whilst currently recovering from a broken foot, maintained his previous established high standard throughout the year, so it is unsurprising he is among the front runners for the award.
From the Spanish perspective, despite going from strength to strength over the past 12 months, there is no place amongst the final three for David de Gea.
