Ahead of the encounter, the official Champions League social media account asked fans to pick between the two shot-stoppers, although the players themselves got involved.
"What do you think?" wrote Casillas to Buffon. "For me, you [are] the best!"
Ever the diplomat, the Bianconeri veteran replied to highlight how he thinks there is nothing to split them after their respective long and successful careers.
"I don't choose. We are the best," he remarked.
Fans will have to wait until February 27 for the duo to clash horns in the last-16, with the Portuguese side hosting the opening match before travelling to Buffon's Juventus on March 14.
