Burnley came from behind to earn an invaluable point against Chelsea as Sunday’s Premiership encounter at Turf Moor finished 1-1. It didn’t take long for the Blues to assert their authority on the game, with Pedro giving the lead after just seven minutes with a smart shot into the bottom corner after being found on the edge of the area by Victor Moses. The Clarets weren’t to be overrun, though, and drew themselves level in spectacular fashion, Robbie Brady marking his debut for the club with a scorching effort which left Thibaut Courtois no chance before bursting the back of the net.
Burnley then looked destined to take the lead eight minutes before half-time as Joey Barton slid a brilliant ball through for Matthew Lowton, who only had the goalkeeper to beat, but Courtois did excellently to get down low and make the save. The Blues looked to step it up a notch after conceding and had decent chances to at least test Tom Heaton in goal, but both Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas failed to make the most of their positions after each sliced their respective shots wide of the mark.
Chelsea continued to plug away and Pedro had a good chance to snatch the points in the closing minutes following some quick passing play by the visitors, although the forward was always leaning back on his shot and ultimately skewed the ball well over. The result saw Chelsea finish the weekend 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League standings, while Burnley climb into a three-way tie for 11th, below Southampton and above Watford after their opening 25 league games this season.
