Cape Town City saw their title ambitions dealt a fatal blow as SuperSport United beat them

Lehlohonolo Majoro opened the scoring in the seventh minute but SuperSport were level through Thabo Mnyamane as the game hit the half-hour mark. In the second stanza there was a flurry of goals as United went ahead through Clayton Daniels and Lebogang Manyama levelled from the spot, before Jeremy Brockie and Thuso Phala hit back for Matsatsantsa. SuperSport started strongly as Phala was slipped clean though early into proceedings but was off the mark with his dinked effort. Phala then had another opportunity a minute later as he drilled an effort towards goal from outside the box and forced Shu-Aib Walters to make an excellent diving stop.

At the other end City capitalised on a mistake from the hosts as a poor clearance allowed Roland Putsche to cushion the ball into Majoro's path for the striker to smash home on the half-volley.  SuperSport tried to find a leveller from a deep free-kick but Michael Boxall couldn't get any power on his header.  The breakthrough did materialise not long afterwards as a lovely ball played Mnyamane clean through on goal and he bundled past Walters rather uncharacteristically, the ball striking his arm, before turning it into an open net.  After the break SuperSport were able to take the lead for the first time as Mnyamane's free-kick was spilled by Walters and Daniels poked home from close range.

The hosts could so easily have doubled their advantage moments later but as some sublime link-up play allowed Mnyamane a shot at goal and his effort snuck between the legs of Walters only for [Ebrahim] Seedat to hack clear.  City punished their hosts on the hour-mark as Majoro tussled with Daniels before going to ground and earning a penalty kick.  The spot-kick was neatly stroked down the middle of the goal by Manyama who went clear at the top of the scoring charts with 13 goals for the league season.  Fresh off scoring a worldie against Polokwane City, Brockie struck in far more pragmatic fashion in the 75th minute to turn home Aubrey Modiba's low cross. Late in the game SuperSport almost had another as Phala's lung-busting run culminated in a neat back-heel that allowed Teboho Mokoena to have a go that hit the crossbar. The same two players then combined for Phala to put the nail in the coffin in stoppage time, converting from Mokoena's unselfish square pass.
