In the aftermath of the tragic plane crash that killed over 70 people, Chapecoense have been awarded the Copa Sudamericana.
It was the tournament's final that the Brazilian team were on their way to play, against Atletico Nacional of Colombia, when the vast majority of their players and staff were killed by the accident.
As such, South America's footballing governing body CONMEBOL have accepted Atletico's forfeit of the match and awarded the trophy to Chapecoense.
That means that the 2 million US dollars worth of prize money will go to the Verdao along with the 1.95m US dollars earned en route to the final, and a 1m US dollar fund has been awarded as extra 'fair play' money to the stricken club.
The honour also means that Chapecoense will take part in a number of games as a result, including the Recopa Sudamericana against the Copa Libertadores champions, the continent's premier club competition, which they'll gain entry to next season.
Also on the horizon is the Supercopa Euroamericana, against the UEFA Europa League victors, and the Suruga Bank Championship where Japan's J League Cup winners await the Brazilians.
