Ahead of Carabao cup clash between Chelsea and Derby County, Chelsea are ready to stop their on loan players from playing against them. Chelsea are not prepared to give Frank Lampard permission to pick loanees Mason Mount and Fiyako Tomori when Derby travel to Stamford Bridge in the EFL Cup.
The London club's legend Frank Lampard, now in charge of the Rams, was handed a fairytale return to his beloved Chelsea in the fifth round draw.
Mount and Tomori, who joined Derby on a season-long loan from Chelsea in the summer, have excelled at the Championship side so far and were key in their stunning League Cup win over Manchester United last month.
Rules of the competition state that loan players can play against their parent club — if they have permission.
Lampard has been in touch with his old club to ask if defender Tomori and midfielder Mount, who has been named in the England senior squad for the first time for the games against Croatia and Spain, can play at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking a few days ago about the situation, Lampard said: “For their careers, it will be great development but from the Chelsea side they want to win the game, just as we do. I will respect their decision whatever it is.”
EFL Cup fifth round draw in full:
Manchester City v Fulham
Bournemouth v Norwich City
Arsenal v Blackpool
Leicester City v Everton or Southampton
West Ham v Tottenham
Middlesbrough v Crystal Palace
Chelsea v Derby County
Burton Albion v Nottingham Forest
The ties are to be played the week commencing October 29.
