Wales wonderkid Ethan Ampadu has signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea which was confirmed by the club on their website.
The Wales international joined Chelsea from Exeter in 2017 for a tribunal fee and has since made seven first-team appearances for the Blues his debut for the club came just few days after he turned 17 in the third round of the Carabao Cup but he has been featuring prominently for the Under 21s.
Ethan can either play in the midfield or defence but his favourite position is still in the midfield
He was born in Exeter, started playing in the local club there before opting to move to Chelsea and has represented Wales four times since joining Chelsea. The teenager featured for Wales in their last UEFA Nation League with Ryan Giggs pairing up in the midfield with Aaron Ramsey as they defeat Republic of Ireland 4-1.
After signing the deal, Ampadu told the official Chelsea website: “I’m really proud and happy. I’m looking forward to the next five years and all I have got to do now is continue to work hard, and hopefully good things will happen.”
Chelsea Director of football Marina Granovskaia said 'Ethan has shown great potential and unbelievable maturity since arriving at Chelsea a year ago,'
'In this short time, he convinced a lot of people with his exceptional quality and mentality and we look forward to watching him develop into a key player for the club over the coming years.’
The young lad has not featured for the first team this season but was useful in preseason games. Chelsea are currently on top of the log in the Premier League after five wins from five games.
The Blues are in action on Thursday night as they take on Greek side PAOK in the Europa League and after that resume with a premier league game against London rivals West Ham on Sunday.
