Chinese SuperLeauge places limit on number of foreigners

3 months ago  Raphael   Sport News

Amidst growing financial might, the Chinese SuperLeague has attracted some big foreign signings in recent weeks, however a new rule made by the Chinese Federation (CFA) just six weeks before the start of the season now means only three players per team can be foreign born.
With historical precedent quite clear as that was how things used to be done in Europe too, and the regulation could have widespread affects on how world football is governed and played.
Since 2009, the CFA was looking into the possibility, with a fourth player spot being reserved for a footballer from all of Asia, but in the end the organisation decided on just three foreigners, and not 3+1 as had been considered.
Another rule maintains that every match-day squad must include at least two U23 players, in a move meant to promote the youth game.
Chinese SuperLeague coaches have their work cut out for them now as they must find ways to keep all of their foreign born players happy while only fieldig three at a time.
