Few days after Premier League winner and Coach of the year, 2016, Claudio Ranieiri, was sacked, the Foxes took on Liverpool under popular first team coach Craig Shakespeare. It was a moment for Shakespeare to prove he was the perfect replacement for Raneiri on Monday night. Yes, it really was!!!!! The Reds were set and prepared to take an easy win at King Power Stadium after a great win at Anfield, earned by in-form striker, Sadio Mane. But unfortunately, the Reds were given a shock of their lives at King Power Stadium. Ten minutes into the game, Liverpool looked promising in getting a win. The Reds had possession and everybody thought the night was for the Reds. Hardly did they know that the remaining 80 minutes was going to look very surprisingly bad for them. James Vardy had it in the 28minute but Goalkeeper Mignolet’s coverage could not stop Vardy. It was Leicester City’s first league goal in 2017. The second goal came in after a bad clearance from James Milner was dropped nicely at Drinkerwater’s foot, who 25yards away from goal, sharply adjusted his body to shape and volleyed the ball at the right corner beyond a confused Mignolet. It was turning out to be a frustrating night for the Reds as they looked restless.
Leicester city were giving in their best in terms of technique, shot and accuracy. They never gave room for any mistakes, they made sure they were careful were determined that night. Liverpool continued struggling after 2goals scored in such a small time. Klopp was looking disappointing and angry. The first half was finally over and both teams needed to talk through one another for a better half. Klopp was looking forward to an immediate response at the second half. Few minutes into the second half, the Reds made a mistake. This time Ndidi intercepted and it came through for Mayrez who combined and played nicely with Fuchs. The Center-back gently saw Vardy from a distance and crossed it nicely for in-form James Vardy who headed the boy right in front of Lucas. It was already becoming a sad night for Klopp’s men.
Now, enough was enough when Emre Can ran from deep and laid it for Philipe Coutinho who slicely shot it passed Schmeichel. It was an effort put in by Liverpool and they were ready to fight back. But was there really enough time for the Reds to do that? Were the Foxes looking satisfied with a 3goal margin set aside by Vardy and Drinkwater? Were they looking forward to strengthening their defence against Liverpool in order to cause more errors? Liverpool played their way into Leicester City’s box and were not successful at their style of play. It was looking obvious that they had lost the game. Ranieri was spotted in King Power Stadium, looking surprised at the team that lost 5 straight games.
