DONE DEAL: Manchester City sign former Arsenal striker on two-year contract

1 month from now  Raphael   Sport News

Manchester City have signed England striker Ellen White from fellow Women's Super League side Birmingham City on a two-year contract. The forward will join the Club on 1 July on a two-year deal from Birmingham City, following this summer’s Women’s World Cup in France, and will wear the number 18 shirt. White, who has 80 caps for her country, boasts a glittering CV, adorned with silverware and individual awards.

Having helped Leeds to clinch the 2010 Premier League Cup, she went on to achieve domestic glory with Arsenal, lifting the 2011 and 2012 league titles, 2011 and 2013 FA Women’s Cups and the 2011, 2012 and 2013 League Cups. She was named the Super League’s Player of the Month in March 2018 and claimed the league’s Golden Boot prize for a prolific 2017/18 campaign, earning Birmingham’s Player of the Season award in recognition, and hopes to achieve further success in sky blue.

"I'm really excited," she told CityTV. "Man City are a fantastic Club and I really can't wait to start. "I know quite a few people here and they've given me so many great reviews of the coaching, the facilities and playing style, and I really wanted to join that culture. It's something completely different for me. "Steph Houghton is one of my best friends and I know Jill Scott and Karen Bardsley from England. I'm excited to work with them again on a Club basis.

"I spoke with Nick Cushing and he really excited me as well. To play for City - an amazing Club with a lovely stadium and the fans - and to be part of something that is going to be amazing is really exciting. "I want to learn and develop and I think I'm really going to do that here. I'm looking forward to working with the staff both on and off the pitch and take advantage of these incredible facilities. "Another attraction was to be involved in the Champions League. I want to be up there, winning trophies. Watching City win the FA Cup and the League Cup made me really want to experience that.

"I want to be involved in that winning mentality again and hopefully, I'll bring passion and commitment, and score some goals. I want to lead off the pitch as well as on it. "I can't wait to get started, meet everyone and get out on the pitch."

Since making her Lionesses debut in March 2010, White has steered her country to the 2013 Cyprus Cup, 2019 SheBelieves Cup and a bronze medal finish at the 2015 World Cup. Her contribution has been rewarded with two England Women's Player of the Year awards. Named in Phil Neville's squad for this summer's World Cup tournament in France, the Lionesses' second-highest scorer in the current squad hopes to add to her collection of incredible memories, looking to guide the Lionesses to gold.

Reflecting on his new addition, manager Cushing declared: "We're really pleased. "Ellen is a number 9 - a prolific goalscorer and somebody we know will lead the line well for us and give us the opportunity to score more goals and dominate games offensively.

"In addition to her attacking ability, she also brings character. She's a good person and an ambitious player, who wants to win trophies. That's what we want at the Club. "We've played well this season, winning two trophies, but we just missed out on the league and to reach the next step, we have to have characters in the dressing room, who can push the team forward and she is one of them."
