We are solidly behind Messi

Argentina players are solidly behind their captain after getting so much criticism for losing a penalty in their 1-1 draw game against Iceland in a group D encounter on Saturday. Speaking to an online sports website, Dybala also confirmed the backing Messi has from the other 22 players in the squad despite losing an opportunity for them to have secured all three points in their first game at the ongoing World Cup in Russia.

Argentina faces Croatia in their next group game on Thursday and Dybala confirmed that they are all behind their 30-year old captain to lead them to success.

“Obviously we all support him, there is no need to remember that,” he was quoted on Argentine online website TyC Sports. “Failing a penalty doesn’t mean anything because he is the first one who wants to fix that and reverse the situation, and he knows he can count on us now more than ever.

“We are here to help him whenever he needs us, to take advantage from him on each game, and we will keep by his side. This is not going to change.”

In the press conference before the game against Iceland, the coach said the duo are not ready to play together, they went on to draw 1-1 as Dybala was left on the bench all through the game.

The Juventus player was convinced he can play in the same team alongside “the best player in the world” as opposed to what their coach Jorge Sampaoli thinks.

Lionel Messi does not have any substitute here, in Barcelona or anywhere in the world. So obviously I think we could work together,” he told a news conference on Tuesday.

“We need to figure out how I would fit on the team because, as you said, I used to play in the same position he plays and lately I have been used to playing in that position. “But obviously I think we must work together.”
