Dzeko's goal is enough to send Roma though on away goals

Shakhtar Donetsk had the advantage after a 2-1 win in the first leg in Ukraine, but Edin Dzeko scored the only goal in the Italian capital on Tuesday night to send the Giallorosi into the Champions League quarter-finals.

They make the last eight of the premier European competition for the first time since 2007/08.

Both sides committed to attack in the first half of this one, yet neither was able to create much in terms of clear chances.

Yet just six minutes into the second half Dzeko had the ball in the net.

A clever Kevin Strootman ball in behind was pounced upon by the striker, who poked the ball into the far corner of the net.

At that point the home side were in command of the tie and a red card for Ivan Ordec with just over 10 minutes to go further complicated matters for the Ukrainians, who couldn't get the goal they needed.
