Eintracht Frankfurt won an
entertaining DFB-Pokal 3-1 final, due in no small part to the goalscoring
prowess of Ante Rebic.
In a game where Bayern Munich
were expected to cruise to victory, they never really recovered from Rebic's
11th minute opener, coming just after Robert Lewandowski had hit the bar at the
other end.
Some hesitancy in the Bayern defence saw Rebic nip in by the half way line, and a quick one-two sent him away. With the whole goal to aim at, he made no mistake. Lewandowski would get his reward for putting in a shift, sliding home Joshua Kimmich's cross on 53.
As in the first half, Bayern
would again hit the bar, this time through Mats Hummels, and two minutes later,
a ball over the top saw Rebic outpace the Bavarian back line and lift the ball
over the advancing keeper.
With time running out, Bayern went for broke but were caught with a sucker punch at the death, Mijat Gacinovic hitting the third in the 97th minute.
