Arsenal coach Unai Emery has outlined his expectations for his two star players Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey. He revealed that he does not expect Ramsey’s contract situation and Mesut Ozil’s international retirement to take a toll on their motivation to perform at the highest level in training and on matchdays.
In an interview with Sport Bild during the Interlull, Arsene Wenger lamented Ozil’s feud with the DFB claiming the carrot of squad inclusion for major tournaments has always helped get the best out of his players.
There have also been suggestions that Ramsey could find himself on the bench more regularly now that the club have pulled out of contract negotiations and that his focus may turn to finding a new club.
Asked about in his pre-Leicester press conference, Emery outlined what he’s expecting of all his players.
“I want every player to stay OK, with the mentality to prepare, to play and [be] together to win,” he said. “My focus is on every match. The football, the future is tomorrow. My reason, I explain to every player and to you also, I want the mentality for the next match. Individual things are not for me to speak about now.”
On Ramsey, he added: “I want his performance like the other players. For example, in the last match he started on the bench, then he played 25 minutes with this performance.
“On Monday it’s the same if he starts in the first XI or on the bench, to come with the focus for this match to help us. It’s not different [than it is] for other players.”
His response was much the same when asked about Ozil. “We need every player with a very big motivation every day in training and to continue improving and to continue helping us with his quality,” he said.
“It’s the same with Mesut. The motivation is very important for us. We want to find this motivation every day from every player.”
