The former England international's death was announced by his former club Leeds United on their official website.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Trevor's wife Sue, sons Darren and Ian, daughter Danielle and his five grandchildren at this difficult time," Leeds said in their statement.
Trevor was part of the squad that led Leeds United to victory in 1974 league championship after joining the club from fellow English side Huddersfield in 1972 and making 486 appearances for the club.
He captained England national team once playing 27 games during his time and was part of the squad that featured at the 1980 European Championship held in Italy.
