An early Paul Pogba penalty put Manchester United on course to a 2-1 victory over Leicester City with Luke Shaw also getting his first professional goal before Jamie Vardy hit a consolation.
With only a few minutes gone defender Amartey handled in the box and Pogba, after a stuttered run up, hit the ball over Schmeichel into the top of the net.
It was a bright start from Jose Mourinho's side and they continued to control the game while Leicester also posed a thrat through Chillwell on the left and Maddison.
Neither side were able to put out their strongest side with players returning from the World Cup and Vardy, Lukaku and Young among those on the bench, while Andreas Pereira played in midfield for Mourinho.
The pace slowed in the second half and United got their second with Juan Mata finding Shaw, whose poor first touch, put him through on goal and he slotted home from a tight angle.
There were a few nervous moments for United at the end when Vardy pulled a goal back.
