Ex-Sevilla man Reyes comes back to haunt Betis

An otherwise dominant performance from Betis went to waste, despite taking the lead through a Ruben Castro penalty, as Espanyol came roaring back in the final 10 minutes to secure all three points at home.
Betis controlled the majority of possession throughtout the match, as the Pericos were unable to contest the ball and deal with the build-up play Victor Sanchez del Amo had prepared for the encounter.
A fortuitous penalty was cooly converted by evergreen goalscorer Castro in the 77th minute and all seemed as though the Verdiblancos would secure the away victory.
However, Javi Fuego made up for the penalty he had committed by scoring on a half-volley off a set-piece in the 87th minute to give Espanyol the equaliser and the momentum.
The star of the show, however, could have been none other than Jose Antonio Reyes who scored one of the goals of the season on the stroke of stoppage time.
Taking a touch on his left foot, a feint with the hips set up a strike with his weaker right foot, yet that didn't matter as he shocked all present at the RCDE stadium by beating Betis keeper Antonio Adan near post.
His celebration surely won't go down well with the Betis faithful, as he immediately called out the Betis fans with a gesture to ruin their night even further, few forgetting his Sevilla past.
The victory leaves Espanyol just a point behind Athletic Club in the race for Europa League football next season, with Los Leones to face Osasuna on Saturday.
