Espanyol have agreed to terminate the contract of former Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis. The 36-year-old has featured just twice in LaLiga so far this season after moving to Spain on a free transfer, following the expiration of his contract at the Etihad stadium.
Demichelis, a World Cup runner-up with Argentina in 2014, will now be allowed to look for a new club in the January window.
A statement on Espanyol's official website read: "On Tuesday, Martin Demichelis and RCD Espanyol reached an agreement to split the Argentine defender's contract from the club. "The player, who was under contract until 30 June 2017, will begin a new experience. "Demichelis joined the club in the summer as a free agent and played two league matches against SD Eibar and Real Betis, and the Super Cup final in Catalonia. "The club thanked the player for his professionalism and commitment to the club and wish him luck in his new sporting stage."
