Former Super Eagles captain reveals the reason why Man Utd lost to PSG in the Champions League

Manchester United's unbeaten run under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ended on Tuesday night following their 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in a Champions League round of sixteen clash at Old Trafford. Two second half goals from Kylian Mbappe and Presnel Kimpembe secured a win for the French Ligue 1 giants. Speaking as an analyst on SuperSport, former Nigeria international and ex-Everton defender Joseph Yobo believes United were taken apart by the French champions because their star player Paul Pogba was dominated in midfield by Marquinhos and Marco Verratti.
''Marquinhos and Verratti today, they controlled the midfield, they put Pogba in the position where they want him to be,'' said Yobo. ''Like we said, Pogba is a pivotal player for Manchester United. If you let him control the game, he can cause you a lot of trouble. ''Credit to Marquinhos and Verratti, they did a brilliant job. ''I think the game was mostly won in the middle and that's what gave PSG the opportunity to be able to go on the counter attack and put those passes together.''
Paul Pogba will miss the second leg clash at the Parc des Princes (Paris) on March 6; he was shown a red card in the 89th minute after a reckless challenge on Dani Alves.
Also, Ex-Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, has said Paris Saint-Germain are “a level above” his former club, after the Ligue 1 won their Champions League round of 16 first leg on Tuesday. Even without Neymar and Edinson Cavani in the lineup, PSG coasted to a 2-0 win at Old Trafford, with Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe scoring within seven second-half minutes. It was United’s first defeat under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and their heaviest home loss in Europe.
“This PSG team is just a level up from this Manchester United team at the moment “This is a reality check for this United team. It’s not a bad thing, it’s something to learn from. “In this tenure Ole Gunner Solskjaer has probably been preparing for this loss. “But tonight they didn’t show anything as an attacking force. They didn’t get around players. This PSG team, without two of their best attacking players, coasted,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport.
