The rocket into orbit was sent up by Avio, who claim to be "a worldwide leader in the field of space travel".
The former Italy international, who lifted the 2006 World Cup, won one Serie A title with Roma in 2001, and scored 307 goals in 786 appearances for the club, making his debut aged 16.
