Atletico Madrid's injury worries deepened on Tuesday as defender Jose Gimenez was forced to retire early from training with an ankle knock.
As the players were put through their paces following Monday night's 3-0 loss away to Villarreal, the centre-back hobbled off the field before the end of the session, assisted by members of the medical team.
After undergoing tests on the problem at Fremap clinic, it was confirmed by the club that he had suffered a traumatic blow to the ankle on his left foot.
"The Uruguayan international will undergo treatment and his recovery is still to be determined," read an official Atleti statement.
The injury is one that coach Diego Simeone could certainly do without, given important defensive players such as Jan Oblak and Filipe Luis are also currently out injured.
