Totteham fear Harry Kane could be out for as long as two months after scans last night revealed he had damaged ankle ligaments. The England striker has not broken the ankle – which was an initial worry after Kane picked up the injury in the 1-0 win over Sunderland on Sunday – but he is expected to be out until the end of October at the earliest. That means he is almost certain to miss four Premier League games, three Champions League games – and England’s next two World Cup qualifying matches, against Malta and Slovenia next month.
Kane netted just his second league goal of the season against Sunderland on Sunday but the 23 year old scored 30 goals for club and country last season and his loss leaves Spurs seriously short of firepower, with only Vincent Janssen signed as a striker during the summer. The good news for Spurs yesterday was that England midfielder Dele Alli signed his second contract in the space of just nine months to commit himself to the club until 2022 – with Danny Rose, Kyle Walker and Jan Vertonghen poised to follow suit.
Alli only signed a new £25,000-a-week deal, doubling his original Spurs wage, in January, but has now extended that contract by a further year and earned another significant pay rise. It is understood the 20-year-old’s latest contract will be worth about £50,000 a week.
