Belgium missed out on a place in the Finals at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia, after being beaten by a France 1-0. Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti scored the decisive goal in the 51st minute of the encounter to book a place for the Les Blues in the final.
Belgium dominated much of the game showing all attacking prowess, but after falling behind France were happy to sit back and hit the red devils on a counter-attack, a tactic that didn’t go down well with Belgium captain Eden Hazard.
“I prefer to lose with this Belgium than win with that France,” Hazard told beIN Sports.
“I wouldn’t say the team in front of us was better than us.
“The team in front of us has defended well with 11 players 35 meters before their goal. And they’ve done this the whole tournament. Against Uruguay, they scored with a free kick. Today a goal from a corner. Pity, but that’s football.”
Hazard and his Belgian teammates will face England on Saturday to battle for the third position.
