According to reports in The Sun, Chelsea are stalling on a new deal for Callum Hudson-Odoi and have no plans to improve his contract until 2020, a move that could make the England international force a move in the summer.
Hudson-Odoi, 18, saw a move to Bayern Munich fall through in January after his club rejected four bids from the Bundesliga giants. But Chelsea are yet to make any advances on improving his terms, even though time is running out with his current deal up at the end of next season.
The World cup U-17 winner's future at Chelsea has reached stalemate with no contract talks since January and none planned. The newly-capped England star’s future is in limbo after a Blues source told SunSport there has been no dialogue between Hudson-Odoi and Chelsea since the transfer window.
Hudson-Odoi was then the subject of a £35million bid from Bayern Munich. The 18-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of next season and the clock is ticking as a host of top clubs chase his signature. Bayern failed with FOUR bids for him in January.
Their Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund are also keen but despite reports, Manchester United are NOT sniffing around Hudson-Odoi. The Chelsea academy product was handed a surprise call-up to the England senior squad last week, having not started a Premier League match.
He played in both Euro 2020 qualifiers and provided an assist for Chelsea team-mate Ross Barkley in the 5-1 rout of Montenegro on Monday.
Hudson-Odoi is now back at the Blues after he impressed for the England National team during the international break and is waiting for club chiefs to reopen contract talks. The winger has featured in domestic cups and the Europa League but boss Maurizio Sarri has been cautious about blooding his prodigy too quickly.
Frustrations have increased as a result and the longer Chelsea drag their heels over a new contract the more likely it is Hudson-Odoi will leave. He submitted a transfer request during Bayern’s interest in the last window and is pondering whether to hand in another come the summer.
His contract stand-off emerged amid claims Chelsea are ready to trump Bayern’s offer of an £85,000-a-week pay deal with a whopping £100k, long-term deal.
Chelsea’s appeal hearing against a transfer ban in the next two windows will be heard by Fifa on April 11. This uncertainty is causing the club concern about holding on to their best young players.
