A lot of controversies surround the inclusion of the veteran Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the current squad in Russia. He didn’t participate in any of their qualifiers but after they beating Azzuris in the playoffs there were suggestions that the Sweden national team all time highest goalscorer with 62 goals from 116 appearances should be part of the team in Russia.
He was later not included in Swedish coach plans and the team have lived up to expectations, qualifying ahead of Germany and also topping the group, and will face Switzerland in the round of 16.
The former Manchester United player has come out to support his nation and also tip them to win the World cup in Russia, according to Daily Mail.
“I said before the World Cup they’ll go far and they’ll probably win it,” the LA Galaxy striker said. “I’m very happy, proud to be Swedish, driving around with a Swedish flag, so, we hear them.
“I took over the world, now Sweden are taking over the world.” Ibrahimovic believes Sweden will be a very tough opponent for anyone left in the tournament.
“Whoever plays against Sweden will have a hard time for sure and I think everybody knows it,’ he added.
Sweden will play their next match on Tuesday against Switzerland.
