Iniesta retires from international football

The 2010 World Cup hero for Spain Andres Iniesta has call his time at the international stage off after his side lost to the host Russia in a penalty shootout.

“It was my last match with the Spanish team. It’s just a wonderful stage,” Iniesta was quoted.

The former Barcelona captain retirement was confirmed on the Spanish La Liga verified twitter handled minutes after he made his decision.

He has been a regular on the La Furia Roja making it to four FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010,2014 and 2018), his best performance came in the 2010 edition in South Africa scoring the winning goal in the finals as they went on to lift the trophy.

He was also part of the Spanish sides that won both the 2008 and 2012 European competition, which cap off a blistering and trophy laden International career for the 34-years old.
