According to Express, James Rodriguez would rather leave Bayern Munich for a Real Madrid return than Arsenal, according to reports. Rodriguez has been tipped to leave Bayern Munich for Arsenal this month amid his ongoing struggles at the Allianz Arena. The Colombia international, who is currently in his second season in the Bundesliga after leaving Real Madrid on loan in 2017, has found life in Germany tough this term. Rodriguez has found himself stuck on the Bayern Munich bench ever since Niko Kovac succeeded Jupp Heynckes as manager back in the summer. Arsenal have reportedly made contact with Real Madrid about securing the player’s services.
However, the Independent say he has decided he would prefer to return to the Bernabeu instead. Rodriguez only left Real because of his struggles under Zinedine Zidane. Zidane, like Kovac this season, would often overlook the Colombian in favour of other players. However, with the Frenchman no longer at the La Liga giants, a possible return could be on the cards. And that, the Independent say, could be bad news for Arsenal. The Gunners would supposedly love to sign Rodriguez as a replacement for Mesut Ozil. Ozil has struggled at the club this season and appears not to have the trust of Unai Emery. But Rodriguez, for now, looks beyond their reach.
Meanwhile, Bayern boss Kovac has urged Rodriguez to fight for his future despite links with Arsenal.
"He's playing for his future,” he said. “Everyone, who wants a new contract, has to put in their best performances. “That also applies to him, but I am sure he will do it.”
