On Monday at a press conference, Juanfran made it perfectly clear that, despite Barcelona's interest, his intention is to stay for many years in La Coruna.
The Blaugrana had been rumoured to be after the right-back and whilst an official approach has been confirmed, no formal offer has been forthcoming.
"There was interest but not a formal offer," he said.
"I knew it and Depor knew it. I'm sure there were other players too, but it also seems that Barcelona will decide not to sign me now."
A complex contract of assignment may have had something to do with the Catalans cooling on the proposed transfer.
"My [termination] clause is eight million and I know now that the contract is a little messy," he continued.
"To renew, I know that Depor has clauses with Watford for the amount of games I play but everything is being facilitated so that I can continue here."
His first objective since arriving at the Galician team was to play for many seasons there, though he also said that it was a compliment for any footballer when a team like Barcelona enjoy their work.
"It is a compliment that a team like Barcelona are interested in me," he said.
"But I can say that the season is going to end for me safely at Deportivo.
"I'll renew and stay here for many years.
"I'm very glad that a team like Depor wants to keep me because that says that I'm doing something well."
