Judas Moseamedi's late strike seal victory for Cape town against Kaizer Chiefs

Cape Town City dramatically grabbed a 3-2 win over Kaizer Chiefs in their Absa Premiership clash at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday evening. Goals from Abrey Ngoma and Lebogang Manyama were cancelled out by Siphiwe Tshabalala and Joseph Molangoane, before Judas Moseamedi popped up to seal the victory at the death. Ngoma opened the scoring in the 16th minute as he skipped past three Chiefs defenders before firing over Bvuma into the roof of the net. Less than five minutes later, though, the ball fell kindly for Tshabalala on the edge of the box, and the Chiefs skipper delicately lobbed over Shuaib Walters, who was off his line.

Following a good counter-attack, Manyama collected a cross at the far-post before putting the ball through George Maluleka's legs, and then firing beyond Bvuma and into the net from an acute angle. An exhilirating first half came to a close with the hosts in the driver's seat, while Chiefs were left to ponder on how to fix their defence for the second half, with Bvuma under siege in his first professional appearance. Chiefs were back in it midway through the second-half as Thabalala played a good ball through for Paez, who rounded Walters before unselfishly crossing for Molangoane, who tapped the equaliser into an empty net.

A flurry of missed opportunities on either end late on made for a nervy end to the match, but substitute Moseamedi popped up to head home in the final minute of the stoppage time to break the Amakhosi's hearts.

Preview:

The Citizens play host to the Amakhosi in a 'top of the table' clash as both teams fancy their chances in the league title race. Eric Tinkler's side currently sit in pole position with 46 points from 24 games, while Steve Komphela's troops are just one point adrift and joint second with Bidvest Wits, who have two games in hand. The last time these two sides met, at the FNB Stadium in November last year, Matthew Sim cancelled out George Maluleka's strike to ensure a share of the spoils. This time, though, the Naturena-based outfit come into the tie having last tasted defeat in open play on December 3, when they lost 3-1 to Chippa United. Since then, they have gone 12 league games unbeaten.

The hosts, meanwhile, have yet to taste defeat in nine league games in 2017, and are surprise packages having maintained their position amongst the main title contenders in Mamelodi Sundowns, Wits and Chiefs. In their first ever meeting in the MTN 8 opening round on August 26, City walked away 1-0 victors, thanks to a seventh minute striker from Sim, who has since left the Cape-based club.
