The Belgian midfielder has come to the defence of his coach Pep Guardiola after the allegations of Yaya Toure claiming the former Barcelona coach is a racist. He addressed Toure’s words firmly while speaking to BBC world football which was centred on how the Machester City’s manager treats African players that always find their way under him.
"I don't know if it was written poorly or if it was exaggerated", De Bruyne explained to BBC World Football. "When you don't play you always try to find a reason. "I never saw anything, it would be very strange if the coach was racist with all the black players we have on our team".
The claims Toure had made against Guardiola were severe, with the midfielder leaving the club at the end of the season.
"I want to be the one who breaks the Guardiola myth," the Ivorian said in an interview with France Football. "Maybe us Africans aren't always treated the same by certain people. When you see the problems he has often had with African players, everywhere he has been, I ask myself questions."
Yaya Toure decided to leave Manchester City at the end of the season after spending 8 years at the club.
