After discussions with the player's agent for a number of weeks, Atletico Madrid are now able to confirm the contract renewal of midfielder Koke until 2024.
The Spaniard made his debut as a 17-year-old and almost left Los Rojiblancos before Diego Simeone's arrival as coach, the Argentine canceling a transfer to Malaga and making Koke a key part of his 4-4-2 system.
"Atleti is the club of my life and it's an honour to be part of its future," the 25-year-old told the Madrid club's official media as the seven-year extension was confirmed.
As MARCA reported on Tuesday morning, Koke's Atletico future has been one of the key factors on the board's mind with sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero adding his own joy at the signing.
"Koke personifies what it is to be an Atlético," he told the club's website. "He is a very supportive player within the group, who works tirelessly, has the highest quality and an enormous desire for self-improvement.
"He is one of this team's leaders and has grown up since very young with the values of our Academy, so knowing that he will continue with us for many more years is the best of news."
