Barcelona starts the season with a win

Barcelona makes it a winning start ahead of the 2018/19 campaign thanks to a first half strike from Gerard Pique and a wonderful second half strike from the World cup winner Ousmane Dembele with Pablo Sarabia giving Sevilla the lead at first.

The first one-legged Supercopa Espana was held at the Stade de Tanger in Morocco which is also the first time the competition will be held outside Spain. The game came into life after VAR justified Pablo Sarabia’s goal which was first ruled out by the Linesman as offside.

The scores were levelled by Gerard Pique in the 42nd minute after a Lionel Messi free-kick had rebounded off the post.

Sevilla were close to taking the lead in the second half when Franco Vazquez header beats ter Stegen but the ball struck the woodwork before French winger Ousmane Dembele won the encounter for his side with an inspired long-range blast past Sevilla goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik, who had a great game and had been proving tough to beat in goal.

In the last minute of the encounter the Andalusia side were given the opportunity to level things up when they were awarded a penalty but Marc-Andre ter Stegen saved a timid Wissam Ben Yedder shot to help the Blaugrana to victory.
