Leverkusen are worse from the penalty spot than Atletico

Penalties can be a lottery, with neither Bayer Leverkusen nor Atletico Madrid having the best of luck over the current campaign, to the point where the latter's confidence will probably be improved slightly due to their opponents' similar weaknesses.
The Bundesliga outfit missed their sixth penalty of the season against Werder Bremen recently, with Omar Toprak unable to convert from the spot in a situation that would have given his side a 96th-minute victory and a 2-1 scoreline.
Diego Simeone's men have missed six of the 10 shots that they have most recently taken, but Leverkusen have scored just one of their last seven spot-kicks.
Five different players have tried their luck, with four of them failing to score at all. Chicharito is the worst of a bad bunch, after hitting the post against Eintracht Frankfurt and seeing one saved against Freiburg.
With Charles Aranguiz and Wendell also having trouble, the only player who has been assured from 12 yards has been Hakan Calhanoglu.
The Turkey international missed once against RB Leipzig, but scored a penalty against Hertha Berlin, but is currently under a FIFA sanction and is not allowed to play for the rest of the season.
In the DFB Pokal too, third-tier club Sportfreunde Lotte knocked out Leverkusen after a tense 4-3 penalty shoot-out win.
