Clichy was released at the end of the season when his Manchester City contract expired, but it hasn't taken long for him to be offered an opportunity to return to Premier League football. The experienced left back looks set to join Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool team. Thirty-one-year-old Clichy was deemed surplus to requirements by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, but Liverpool have jumped at the opportunity to acquire a left back that has bags of Premier League and Champions League experience. The left back position has been an area where Liverpool have struggled with this season, with midfielder James Milner having to deputise for much of the campaign. Manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to improve the quality and depth of his team, particularly the defence, as he looks to build a squad that can seriously compete for the Premier League title next season. Paris Saint-Germain have also shown interest in signing the Frenchman, which is part of the reason that Liverpool have moved so quickly to offer him a contract. The Sun reports that it is now down to Clichy to accept the deal, which would be for an initial two year period, with the option for an additional year.
