Real Madrid players dominated Monday’s FIFA The Best awards gala in London as they won the most award of the night. They had four players in the FIFA team of the year with Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and Luka Modric, also at the event, their new goalie Thibaut Courtois won the best goalkeeper while their maestro midfielder Luka Modric stops the dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo by winning the best player of the year.
Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui believes that the award will not distract his players and he wished more for his boys.
With Isco and Carvajal ruled out the midweek fixture against Sevilla the Spanish gaffer also took time to talk about how he will resolve the issue of selection.
"This morning he [Isco] had some pain and he will need surgery, we hope it goes well and he recovers as soon as possible," he said of the Spanish international.
"We are now thinking about solutions and who to put in because we have full confidence in everyone.
"No, it's part of football and I'm happy that my players were those who won," he said on whether the awards might distract Real.
"We have a really tough game against Sevilla and that's exciting and what we want, very much more than the individual awards.
"They are a very good team, with players that have adapted to [Pablo] Machin's system, they are very organized and are on a hot goalscoring streak.
"In life and in Madrid you have to take on the challenge every day. Now we have a big, historic and tough match and we're not looking beyond that."
Lopetegui also had his say on VAR after the technology has been the subject of hot debate this week.
"I'm not going to judge the opinions of others, I believe VAR helps any doubtful incidents. Perfection doesn't exist but I believe it's a system that is improving," he admitted.
He finished by commenting on the history that Los Blancos have created and whether they can keep that momentum going.
"It's true that they have marked an era and we have to keep going like that," Lopetegui said.
"We have to write the future ourselves on the basis of what we do, but in the past, they have won it all."
